In the August 2021 issue of Chogwa, the Khmer/Cambodian poem “ឆ្នាំង/Chhnang,” which literally means “Pot” is translated into English.
Of the Khmer/Cambodian people, it is said, “Rice is something we eat three times a day. In the Khmer language, in everyday conversation, we don’t ask each other about breakfast, lunch, or dinner without adding the word ‘rice.’”
Are my Chinese-Cuban (Chino-Cubano) roots a part of the reason why I like rice so much? I wonder.
“Without rice, there is nothing.
And without the pot, there is no rice”.
