The most popular herb cultivated in Cuba for medicinal use is the Tilo or Tila plant which is commonly brewed into a tea. This tea is said to be very relaxing and useful in relieving anxiety.

Cubans also use Tilo to produce a homemade cough syrup by boiling the leaves in water for 2-3 minutes and then mixing the liquid with honey.

According to The Encyclopedia of Psychoactive Plants: Ethnopharmacology and Its Applications, the leaves of Justicia Pectoralis or Tilo, can be mixed with marijuana to create a unique smoking blend.

The many medicinal benefits and the versatility of the Tilo plant have served the Cuban population for many generations and generations to come.
