A cannabinoid is a naturally occurring component in cannabis that is responsible for producing many of the effects — both negative and positive — of cannabis use.
As we mentioned in our last post, THC is the main psychoactive compound in cannabis plants and is responsible for the “high” or state of euphoria associated with cannabis use. Plants which have been propagated with greater concentrations of THC are considered hybrids. Cannabis has a higher concentration of THC. Hemp has a higher concentration of CBD.
CBD is also a cannabinoid but it does not create the euphoria that comes with higher levels of THC. It is considered non-impairing. Many patients use CBD products to lower levels of inflammation and as a pain relief measure. CBD is also used to reduce nausea and prevent seizures.
In summary, CBD and THC have many of the same medical benefits. They can provide relief from several of the same conditions. However, CBD doesn’t cause the euphoric effects that occur with THC. Some people may prefer to use CBD because of the lack of this side effect.
